When I was a child growing up in New England, I spent my days playing in my grandfather’s large garden and exploring the streams and wetlands surrounding it. I felt the flow of the water pulsing through my blood. I sensed the rhythm of nature beating in my soul. I marveled at the wonders of nature both beautiful and fierce. This resplendent setting became the breeding ground of my artistic imagination.

When I contemplate nature I see a mystery: On the surface one sees calm, peaceful beauty; yet underneath, it rages with a powerful energy and a fierce, constant struggle for survival.

Because I am a spontaneous, energetic person, I am drawn to watercolor to express my free-flowing style. I favor rich, natural colors and strong, lively brushstrokes. My love for brushstrokes led me to China and a study of Asian painting. I became mesmerized by the brushwork and captivated by the rich ink. My painting style is a combination of American and Asian methods.

When I paint, I sense a sublime moment and try to capture its essence.
